1/12th scale house based on Shibden Hall, Halifax. The real house was built about 1480 and is typical of the “H Plan” hall found in the Pennine region of the West Riding of Yorkshire. This detail shows the fireplace and chimney breast of the housebody (hall) and part of the gallery which was a later addition in the real house.

The large open hall was called the housebody in this part of the country. The model is open to the roof and features a king post roof truss. The spindles to the gallery were turned by us and are based on originals of the correct period.

The chimney breast features the Stuart arms of Charles I. This was a common decorative feature often found on chimney breasts in many houses of the West Riding where there was strong Royalist support in the English Civil War. This detail was requested by the customer and is not found in the original house but is taken from nearby Elland New Hall an almost identical building of the same period.
