Pewter Plates

Introduced to Britain by the Romans, pewter was used for many centuries in the production of common household items such as plates, candlesticks and drinking vessels. It is an essential accessory for anyone working in the Tudor or Georgian period and looks equally at home in a modern cottage. When new it’s colour resembles silver but over a period of time it develops a patina and takes on a mellow leaden appearance.

A range of hand made pewter plates is available and covers 1/24th scale through to 1/12th. The range covers chargers down to small dishes. The smaller plates although designed for 1/24th can obviously be used in the larger scales as very small side plates or dishes. Alternatively, they can be used as larger pieces in 48th scale.

Our plates are available with a choice of two finishes. These are shiny which gives a new look or with a darker antique finish. The dark finish is the colour most people associate with old pewter and can be varied from a light grey to a very heavy leaden look. The new finish will however darken over a period of time.

As pewter is soft and easily bent, do not press down too hard if holding in place with grip wax.
