All of our houses are custom made which ensures that each one is unique. The house can be made as simple or elaborate as you wish. Any scale, period or design can be made with size offering no problem whether the house is a simple cottage or country mansion. We can make a house based on a real building, work from your ideas or design something for you. We can also put kits together for you and this is described in detail at the bottom of the page.
Architectural or historical detail present no problem if you wish your house to be accurate in this respect. With our background in model making and having an interest in historic buildings, you can be assured of our attention to detail. An example of this was a dolls house based on Shibdon Hall near Halifax. The original hall, a fine early Tudor building of the late 15th century has been much altered over the years. Our model represents the house as it may have looked about 1650 and involved a great deal of historical research.
Our houses are made from MDF or birch ply depending upon the customer’s budget. They are constructed in 1/2” (13mm) thick material which is glued and screwed in the larger scales or 1/4” (6mm) thick material in 1/24th which is pinned and glued.
A house can be finished to whatever level you want. We have had customers who are working to a restricted budget have the interior detailed at the construction stage and then return the house for the exterior to be worked on at a later date and when finances allow. We do recommend that they are wired at the construction stage as this can sometimes be a difficult and time consuming job later on. It is much easier to incorporate as the house is made.
They can be left in a natural wood finish for you to complete or they may be fully detailed. They can be fully decorated and may include features such as imitation stone floors ( a speciality of ours), built in fireplaces and timber framing. Floors laid with individual boards can be incorporated and exteriors clad in real brick with a slate roof.
The only limit to what you have made is your imagination. We really can turn dreams into reality.
As well as making houses to order, we can assemble those made from kits. This can often be a cheaper alternative than having something custom made. A kit can be adapted or altered to make it individual. Alternatively, you may have already bought a kit and haven’t had the time to put it together or you may have run into difficulties in assembling it. They do not always go together as they should or certain parts wont fit. We have had experience in this area and have salvaged many such projects.
Many people find wiring a dolls house a daunting task. We can wire an existing house or extend a system in order to provide extra lighting, flickering fires or individually switched circuits. Any system that we fit runs from a 12volt transformer and is fully compatible with all normal dolls house light fittings and accessories.
